Marty's Monday Message

Marty and Ronda Red

Marty’s Devotion Week 19

Imagine a world without music.
No choirs to stir the soul
Their lofty message inspiring, challenging,
Making us see and understand
The possibilities
The depth of sorrow
The heights of joy,
The hope of heaven.

Imaging a world without music.
No song of youth,
No energetic and passionate verse
Exploding into existence in sounds,
In utterances, in joy, in all the colors of sound.
Hope springing eternal.

Imagine a world without music.
No song of a child.
No song of wonder,
No song of faith.
No exuberance of life, fidgety, funny, adorable.
Reminding us all that we can be better,
Reminding us that
We must try harder for that precious generation.

Imagine a world without music.
No seasoned saint lifting a voice of gratitude.
No world-weary voice pointing to a better day ahead,
No wizened voice to give a clarion call to hope.

Imaging a world without music.
Just Silence,
dreadful and painful.
Just the lonely sound of the wind on the plain,
Wind blowing, with no destination.
Dry, dusty, hot, listless.
Why do we not value what is important until it’s too late?

Music is not a talent to exploit
It is God’s gift to us
Music’s gift must be nurtured, taught and treasured
Who will God use to teach these young ones?
Imagine a world of music with you.

Sunday, the 19th, was a wonderful day. It was a day of joy and remembering. It was a day of hope. As we looked into the choir loft, we saw a new generation of FBC Enid. Students and young adults who love the Lord and are looking to make a difference. This generation was trained in this church. They had children’s choir leaders, Sunday School teacher, VBS teachers, Children’s Camp, Falls Creek workers, Rekindled Choir rehearsals, Mission Trip counselors, family friends, church staff and the list goes on. Music may have only been a part of what happened, but it was an important part. It was a part that does take years of patience, years of investment, that is for sure. It, however, is an investment that yields a lifetime of joy and hope for the people of God.

As we turn the corner to a new day at FBC it is important to ask the question, “What’s next?” Will there be a ReKindled in years to come? Will we have children’s choirs and choirs for our senior adults? If so, who will step up to help train? Who will be there to support and under gird those choirs and choir leaders? Maybe the days of choirs are simply behind us. The church might say It is too expensive or our children are too busy already. Whatever the future looks like, I know it will be what the church decides either by strong decision or by apathetic indifference. I am praying for a re-energizing of the Holy Spirit for the days ahead.

Love ya, Marty
